Our Story

Derrick and Claire met during college at UC San Diego where countless iconic relationships have begun: at a house party. As Claire walked into the kitchen for some libations, Derrick yelled, “I’m done with midterms, let’s get effed up!” and she was instantly sold (kidding). Thankfully, Claire and Derrick continued to hang out, got to know each other, and realized that there was something there worth exploring. There were a few on-theme hiccups along the way, namely:

  • Their first cooking date: Before Claire knew of Derrick’s cooking prowess, she wanted Tostitos mango salsa with her tacos & Derrick was very judgmental about it. Upon eating it, Derrick conceded and agreed that the combination was *chef’s kiss.

  • Derrick’s injury: During their senior year of college, Derrick tore his Achilles’ heel playing volleyball, leaving him on crutches and out of the kitchen. Claire was in charge of the cooking; consequently, he lost quite a bit of weight!

Ultimately, their excitement about each other (and Derrick’s cooking skills) carried them through the end of college, 2 years of long-distance dating, and 7 years in the Bay Area, where they’ve settled happily with their cat, Mocha.

To this day, food remains the centerpiece of their relationship, providing them endless opportunities to show their love for each other. Whether it’s an anniversary meal at Atelier Crenn (with a surprise appearance by Chef Dominique Crenn herself), or a sushi night with Derrick’s freshly caught halibut, or a marriage proposal-and-dinner in one on the coast of Goa, or a simple yet refined dinner of Totino’s Pizza Rolls, there’s never a shortage of new memories, shared laughs, and full stomachs.

Since their love for one another emerged through food, Derrick and Claire could think of no better way to celebrate with friends, family, and loved ones with food at the center (a meal prepared by the top-notch chefs of the award-winning restaurant, Fauna). It is their honor to invite you to join them at their wedding for a celebration of love, community, and, of course, food. They hope you are able to join them as they exchange vows, enjoy a meal, and embark on the next chapter of their journey!
